Sample guide

The guide your guests open.

Lantern House is a made-up place, but everything else is the real product: the guide a guest opens from the QR code by the door, with no app to install.

Every answer in this guide comes from one of its chapters; the assistant makes nothing up. Only the place itself is a fictional example.

Getting in Back to the top of the guide

Arrival and keys

The key box is on the wall to the right of the green door, at shoulder height. The code is in the message I sent the morning you arrive.

Inside are two keys: the long one is the street door, the small brass one is the courtyard. If you came by bike, the courtyard has a covered rack on the left-hand wall that locks from the inside.

Please put both keys back in the box when you leave.

Wi-Fi Back to the top of the guide

If the Wi-Fi drops

Unplug the white box on the hallway shelf for ten seconds and give it two minutes to come back.

The router is on the shelf by the front door; nothing else in the flat needs restarting.

Parking Back to the top of the guide

Parking

The lane outside is pedestrian-only from ten in the morning, so unload at the door before then if you can.

The public garage two streets down the hill takes cards and charges by the hour; from there it is a four-minute walk up.

House rules Back to the top of the guide

House rules

No smoking anywhere inside, including at the windows.

The building is old and the floors carry, so please keep it quiet after eleven. Shoes off in the hallway if you can — the neighbours below will thank you.

Leaving Back to the top of the guide

Checkout

Any time before eleven.

Strip the beds if you have a minute, leave the dishes in the machine and start it, put both keys back in the box and spin the dial. That is all.

How things work Back to the top of the guide

Kitchen and appliances

The oven is the left-hand dial: turn it to the flame mark and hold it in for about three seconds, then set the temperature.

The dishwasher tablets are under the sink. The coffee is in the cupboard above the kettle and it is yours — take what you need.

Heating and hot water

The radiators are on a timer from six to ten in the morning and four to eleven at night. The dial in the hallway raises the whole flat by a couple of degrees.

Hot water takes about a minute to reach the shower.

Recommendations Back to the top of the guide

Eat

The place with the blue awning

Two streets over. It takes no bookings but rarely fills before eight. Order the begova čorba and whatever the owner points at.

Coffee & breakfast

Bakery on the corner

It opens at six and the burek is gone by nine. Take it down to the Sebilj fountain with a coffee from the kiosk beside it.

Sights & culture

Beaches & outdoors

Trebević by cable car

The cable car leaves from Bistrik, fifteen minutes on foot, and is in the pine woods ten minutes later. Walk back down beside the old Olympic bobsleigh track.

Open map

Markets & shops

Markale market

Five minutes on foot, on Mula Mustafe Bašeskije. Fruit, cheese and dried figs — go before ten, when it is freshest.

Answered from this guide · Wi-Fi and internet

Is there somewhere to leave a bike?

Yes — the courtyard through the green door has a covered rack on the left-hand wall, and it locks from the inside. The courtyard key is the small brass one on the ring.

Answered from this guide · Arrival and keys

Could we check out a little later than 11?

The guide says any time before eleven and does not mention a later checkout, so that one is for your host to answer.
